  • What is the quickest way to get started with WEBKNOSSOS?

    Signing up for a free account on webKnossos.org is the quickest way to get started with webKnossos. The Basic plan get's you started for quick streaming and annotation of large-scale volumetric datasets. For larger teams and more demanding projects we recommend the Team and Power plans.
    webKnossos.org makes it easy for you to get started. No installation required - it just runs in your browser. Best of all, it comes with regular updates, backups, storage and secure hosting all taken care of.

  • How can I view and annotate my datasets on webknossos.org?

    webKnossos.org comes with a built-in interface for uploading and importing datasets right from the browser to quickly get you started. Alternatively, webKnossos supports streaming you data from remote storage (e.g. S3, GCS, HTTP) in the OME-Zarr, N5, Neuroglancer Precomputed file formats. Get in touch with us if you need assistance with importing data into webKnossos.
    On the Power plan, we offer managed on-premise installations of webKnossos, where datasets can be directly stored in your data center. 

  • Where can I learn more about WEBKNOSSOS?

  • Can I further analyze my annotations outside of WEBKNOSSOS with Python/MATLAB?

    Yes, you can. webKnossos allows the download and export of skeleton annotations as NML files and segmentations/volume data as binary/wkw files or Tiff-stacks. Further, you can access segmentation data through the Zarr streaming interface. 
    See the documentation on tooling for a recommendation of open-source Python/MATLAB libraries to work with the webKnossos formats.

  • How can I access datasets publicly published on webknossos.org?

    There is a collection of published datasets on webknossos.org. All users may freely browse the image datasets and accompanying annotations without a login. Creating a free account will allow to download the data and create custom annotations on top of these datasets.

  • I am looking for a custom WEBKNOSSOS setup.

    webKnossos can be set up to accommodate flexible deployment scenarios. Over the years we have worked with different research institutes and have tackled a diverse set of challenges. Custom data formats, petabyte-scale datasets, on-premise or cloud storage, file system tuning, monitoring...

  • I need a new functionality not yet available in WEBKNOSSOS.

    We are always interested in learning about new ideas and gathering feedback. Get in touch with us to give us feedback and suggestions for new features.
    We constantly develop new features and continuously improve webKnossos. As an open-source project, you can extend webKnossos yourself. webKnossos also comes with a rich frontend API and REST interface for scripting new workflows. Alternatively, you can hire us to help you with custom feature development.

  • Who develops and runs WEBKNOSSOS?

    webKnossos is an open-source product developed by scalable minds in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research.
    All hosting accounts on this website are executed and handled exclusively by scalable minds.

  • Is WEBKNOSSOS open-source?

    Yes, webKnossos is developed as an open-source project. Check out the code on GitHub.

  • What is the difference between Knossos and WEBKNOSSOS?

    While webKnossos and Knossos share some of their roots, they are two distinct software tools for viewing and annotating 3D datasets developed by different teams. webKnossos enjoys regular updates bringing new features, quicker annotation methods, and support for new and emerging file formats.
    webKnossos supports a wide array of popular data formats and is used for creating both skeleton and volume annotations. As a browser-based application, it is easy to collaborate with others, share links to datasets and publish datasets for other to review.

  • What payment methods do you offer?

    You can get started with a free account without any payment methods.

    For paid accounts, we accept payment through credit card, PayPal and bank transfer. Billing is on an annual basis.

  • Is there after-sales customer support service?

    Yes, you can reach out to us with questions about webKnossos. Please use our very active community forum to post your questions. Our team regularly checks for new topics.
    The Team and Power plan also come with email support and the option to schedule workshops and trainings.

  • Can I change my plan at a later time? 

    You may upgrade your plan at any point in time. Reach out to our sales team if you have any questions or doubts.

  • Can I cancel my plan at any time?

    Paid accounts are billed annually. You can cancel your plan before the end of your billing cycle. 

  • Do you have any plans for big companies?

    Yes, we do. The Power plan comes with advanced features for enterprises and big companies, such as Single Sign-On (SSO), the option for on-premise installations, and data-streaming directly from you storage server infrastructure.

  • I need more than 50GB of storage for my datasets.

    Basic accounts includes 50 GB of storage for private datasets in order for you to get started.
    The Team and Power plans include 1TB of storage and can be upgraded through paid add-ons.
    Additionally, you can import OME-Zarr & N5 datasets from remote storage (e.g. S3, GCS, HTTP) that will not count against your storage quota.

  • I need more user seats for my organization.

    The Team plan (5 users included) can be upgraded through paid add-ons to provide more space for additional users. The Power plan comes with unlimited users.

  • Can I get exclusive offers for my institute/company?

    Pricing on webKnossos.org is already discounted for academia and non-profit-organizations. For industry pricing please reach out to our sales team.
    Additional discounts may be available in the combination with other services such as a AI segmentations or neuron reconstruction projects.

  • Where is my data stored?

    All datasets uploaded on webknossos.org are stored securely in the scalable minds cloud infrastructure in Germany. Hosted 100% on renewable energy.

  • Why should I trust webknossos.org with my data?

    Data security is one of our top priorities.
